Third-seed Andy Murray stormed past Portuguese qualifier Frederico Gil 6-2 6-1 to book his place in the semi-finals of the Monte Carlo Masters.

The Scot breezed past Gil with a comprehensive display of power and ingenuity, breaking the world number 82 five times over the course of the one-hour, 12 minute match.
A win for Gil would have seen the 26-year-old become the first Portuguese player to break into the top 50 in the world rankings, but Murray was rarely troubled on a blustery afternoon in Monaco.
The world number four broke as early as the third game - overpowering Gil with the sheer weight of his groundstrokes - and didn't look back as another break on Gil's next service game effectively sealed the first set for a rampant Murray.
The second set followed a similar pattern, as Murray again broke Gil's second service game after a series of errors from the Portuguese underdog.
Murray had to defend a break point in the next game to prevent Gil forcing his way back to level terms - the Scot securing the hold of serve with a morale-boosting ace - before breaking again in the fifth and seventh games to wrap up an utterly dominant quarter-final victory.
His reward is a semi-final match-up with world number one Rafael Nadal, who booked his place in the last-four with a 6-1 6-3 victory over Ivan Ljubicic.
The Spaniard was broken early in the first set as both players struggled to come to terms with the blustery wind in Monte Carlo, but Nadal recovered the quickest to breeze through the opening set 6-1.
Croatian Ljubicic was much more competitive in the second set, but was ultimately unable to ruffle the feathers of the top-seed as Nadal claimed his 35th consecutive victory at the tournament.
